Bill Anderson, PT, DPT, GCS, CEEAA, MSCS
Bill has been passionate about working with people with disabilities since the beginning of his career at the Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital in New York, where he worked with a wide variety of people with functional deficits resulting from stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, COPD, CHF, orthopedic fractures and joint replacement surgery. While this experience laid a solid clinical foundation, Bill was interested in knowing what happened after discharge to the community from the inpatient rehabilitation setting.
After moving to Maine with his spouse in 2004, Bill began providing care in the home health setting, experiencing a wide array of diagnoses that inspired him to earn Board Certification in Geriatric Physical Therapy and then became certified as an Exercise Expert for Aging Adults through the American Physical Therapy Association.
Seeing the aging demographic in Maine, Bill wanted to help prepare other therapists in the area. As Director of Therapy Practice at a local home health agency, he became a leader in setting clinical care standards throughout Maine. Bill has mentored other therapists pursuing Board Certification in Geriatric Physical Therapy and was honored as the Home Care and Hospice Alliance of Maine Caregiver of the Year in 2011 and received the American Physical Therapy Association Clinical Excellence in Geriatric Physical Therapy Award in 2015.
Always looking to learn and grow, Bill earned his Certificate for Leadership Development in 2017 and, in 2019, became a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist.
With Resilience Maine, Bill is now leading a physical therapy practice that focuses on clinical excellence, meeting each person where they are in their journey to maximize their mobility and quality of life. With a chronic illness himself, Bill understands the importance of developing physical resiliency to get through the more challenging times.
Bill resides in Portland, Maine with his wonderful wife and daughters. He is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and enjoys helping mixed martial arts fighters recover from injuries as a special area of interest.
